For our Winter 2025–2026 issue, “Twisted Myths,” we invited writers to re-imagine the stories we think we know. The response was electric. Submissions bent myths, fables, and fairy tales into daring new shapes and, in some cases, invented entirely new myths. Characters we recognized became strangers again when seen through fresh eyes; new life was breathed into old, familiar narratives.

Within the pages of this issue, you’ll find untold perspectives and narratives that refuse to behave as expected. Together, they remind us that reinvention is an act of both reverence and rebellion. Our hope is that for you, dear reader, this issue successfully reinvents timeless tales in a surprising way, showing that we can both receive comfort from the old and excitement from the new.

This month’s artwork is sourced from The National Gallery of Art public collection, and we selected pieces that resonated with our stories. The cover photograph with its mystical vibrations and mermaid echoes is from Jens on Pexels.
